Position Summary

The Staff Accountant supports the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for OneSpaWorld's corporate, resort, and vessel operations, based in our Coral Gables, FL corporate office. This role prepares journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and accrual schedules, and produces accurate, well-documented support that withstands internal and external audit review.

As a publicly traded company, OneSpaWorld operates under SEC reporting requirements and a formal internal control framework. Every entry, reconciliation, and workpaper prepared in this role becomes part of the evidence supporting our externally reported financial statements. Accuracy, timeliness, and documented support are core requirements of the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post assigned month-end journal entries within published close deadlines, with complete supporting documentation for entry into NetSuite.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, posting cash journal entries, tying into NetSuite GL and bank statements.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets.
  • Assist with monthly recurring adjustments, including amortization and accrual entries.
  • Investigate and clear reconciling items timely; escalate aged or unsupported items to the Accounting Manager rather than carrying them forward.
  • Ensure each reconciliation demonstrates that the recorded balance is appropriate and supported.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Incorporate AI technologies to enhance closing tasks and general ledger analysis.
  • Complete ad hoc requests and special projects assigned by the Accounting Manager and Controller.

Public Company Reporting and Internal Control

  • Perform assigned internal controls over financial reporting consistently and on schedule, and retain evidence of preparation and review.
  • Support the external audit team with requests and preparation of audit schedules.
  • Maintain audit-ready workpapers so an independent reviewer can determine, months later, what was done, why, what evidence was considered, and who reviewed it.
  • Meet close and reporting deadlines that support the company's quarterly and annual SEC filing calendar.
  • Follow company accounting policies, delegation of authority, and documentation standards without exception; raise proposed departures to the Accounting Manager in advance.
  • Protect the confidentiality of financial results prior to public release and comply with the company's insider trading policy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • One to three years of accounting experience preferred, including exposure to a month-end close cycle.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the accrual basis of accounting.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including lookups and pivot tables, preferred.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, organization, and ability to meet firm close deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Core Competencies

  • Attention to detail and ownership of assigned accounts.
  • Curiosity — asks why a balance moved rather than accepting that it did.
  • Willingness to research a question before escalating it.
  • Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Collaboration with external and internal auditors, operations, accounts payable, and shipboard teams.
